Seychelles Private Clinic Association holds preventive health care road show

The Seychelles Private Clinic Association held a preventive healthcare road show yesterday, April 7, at the Camion Hall to commemorate World Health Day.

Comprising seven major private clinics in the country ‒ Panafricare Clinic, Dr Murthy’s Medical and Gastro clinic, Euromedical Family Clinic, Future Care, Le Chantier Dental Clinic, Revival Health Centre and Victoria Health Clinic ‒ the association held the road show to mark the day and show that they care for members of the public as healthcare is their vocation.

Doctor Miodrag Todorovic, chairman of the association, said they are not just about business and money making but corporate social responsibility also matters for them.

He stated that in particular they held the road show to cover the seven slots they had that day in preventive healthcare. This means testing before getting sick and evaluating the risk of what could be chronic diseases in the future as well as if you already have something to prevent a more severe outcome. This is the importance of preventative care, enabling individuals to get treatment on time.

Dr Todorovic stressed that if there are not many preventative clinics in the world; in clinical care there is prevention in major departments but in terms of small clinics preventative care has not yet been demonstrated in the communities.

He added that in his clinic, he has come up with a project on how preventative care can help.

The chairman said last year surprisingly they detected a lot of very malignant cancer of the skin. He stated that once the matter is plunged into, individuals can discover how deep the risk pool is.

The activity started at nine in the morning and ended at 1pm.

It has been confirmed that it will now be conducted annually and also for other occasions throughout the year.

Dr Todorovic said they have a major programme to be present in the health sector, which includes education that will not only be on offer for just the private clinics but for all doctors and nurses in the country.

The chairman of the association spoke about the benefits of the projects, adding that they are planning to bring people from overseas to support the development and to raise the level of healthcare in Seychelles.

Victoria Health clinic director Laurent Alis said it is a day where they give something to the community and that every clinic offers something different. The Victoria Health clinic currently has three branches including one that just opened on Praslin and will for the first time have a specialist. People sometimes have to wait for three months for instance for an X-ray, they will now have the facility on hand. At the road show the clinic was offering free antigen tests and clear here for skin rejuvenation.

The Revival Health Centre, headed by Dr Satyen Shah, offers ozone therapy which is also called bagging for the non-healing chronic wound. A medical grade oxygen and ozone generator is needed and the ozone is passed through particular micrograms which is an anti oxidant that kills the ulcer. Ozone therapy lasts 20 minutes and after the machine is switched off the wound sits for a few more minutes.

Dr Natasha Shroff from Le Chantier Dental clinic was offering a general check-up and advising patients of treatment plans, what they should do and how they should follow the order of the treatments.

She expressed that they were very happy to be helping the public as it is something different to their everyday routine.

For the road show, Future Care was offering free blood tests, blood count and such as family planning. People who went for the free blood tests will also get a free review. The fully fledged medical care centre also claims it has the best laboratory.

Dr Murthy’s Medical and Gastro clinic opted for free eye screening to check the eye pressure, normal vision, cataract, glaucoma and more. Dr Sivan Selvaraj Udayar from the clinic said they offered the screening for awareness as the eyes are the most sensitive parts of the body.

Panafricare offered tests for bone densitometry, measuring the strength of bones with digital equipment that give on the spot report.

Dr Todorovic stated that osteoporosis is an expensive and costly problem when it comes to age causing spontaneous fractures, joint problems and general lack of calcium in the bones.

The chairman of the Seychelles Private Clinic Association said they are happy to be given the opportunity to give visibility to the association and that the clinics are working together more and more with common projects being employed and working together as one unit.
