“It is in time of need that we see the true spirit of giving and lending a hand,” Minister for Local Government and Community Affairs, Rose-Marie Hoareau, has said.

The minister made the statement yesterday while accepting a donation of vouchers worth R25,000 from local company Hunt, Deltel and Co. Ltd as contribution towards the victims of the March 11 flooding, precisely at Corgat Estate in the Mont Fleuri district, where several families were severely affected.

It was the company’s general manager Ronny Matatiken who officially handed over the vouchers to Minister Hoareau and the district administrator for Mont Fleuri Steve Noel, in the presence of the principal secretary for local government and community affairs Kevin Perrine.

Minister Hoareau noted that following the flooding, many people have come forward to assist I one way or another, be it in kind, or by voluntarily stepping in to do damage control while rain water flooded the houses, and even by clearing debris, or putting vehicles at the disposal of the team on the ground.

This, she said, all with the common aim of helping those in need, and for that, the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs is really grateful.

“Such gestures are heart-warming, uplifting and encouraging as it shows the spirit of voluntarism and coming together to help others in times of crisis,” added Minister Hoareau.

On behalf of Hunt, Deltel and Co. Ltd, Mr Matatiken said they are very happy to step in and make their contribution in this time of need.

He explained the gesture forms part of the company’s culture and policy to give back and support the community whenever the need arises.

The donation has been made possible through contacts made by Mr Noel following the incident.

A total of 15 vouchers worth R1,500 each will be distributed among 15 families.
