Ministry of Local Government & Community Affairs

Men’s committee honours female colleagues on their day

On the occasion of International Women’s Day on Tuesday March 8, 2022, the men’s committee within the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, yesterday afternoon hosted their female counterparts to an entertainment and cocktail activity that was held at the Roche Caiman district community centre.

The aim through this activity was for the female district administrators and the women from the secretariat to celebrate their achievements, hard work and contributions made as leaders, mothers, sisters or a friend, in a relaxed atmosphere.

Also present were the Minister for Local Government and Community Affairs, Rose Marie Hoareau; the Minister for Investment, Entrepreneurship and Industry, Devika Vidot and the elected member of the National Assembly for the Roche Caiman district, Audrey Vidot.

All the ladies present were presented with a token of appreciation before being entertained, through fun and laughter, with a small cultural show mounted by the male district administrators.

The opening started with a song, ‘Fanm’, by Philip Toussaint interpreted by Aaron Bonnelame, the administrator for Ile Perseverance 1; a poem entitled ‘Fanm o fanm’ by Kenneth Pierre, the administrator for Glacis including a theatrical performance with the participation of Bonnelame, Pierre and colleague administrators Steve Noël from Mont Fleuri and Denis Antat from Baie St Anne Praslin.

There was also a performance by two boys from the deaf association including a surprised appearance of Lauren with her song ‘Lafimen’.

Minister Hoareau was also presented with a token of appreciation from the management male staff of the secretariat, for her leadership role.

In his speech for the occasion, the principal secretary for Local Government and Community Affairs, Kevin Perine, called on the women present to continue to stay strong and resilient instead of envy each other.

He reminded them that as they are the catalyst for change they should stand up and take their position in society.

PS Perine also urged the women present to continue to support each other and other women around the world, especially those in Ukraine who are suffering from injustice. On that note he recommended that the audience rose and sang the song ‘Heal the World’ by Michael Jackson, for the suffering.

On behalf of the women present, Minister Hoareau thanked the men for their time and effort to put together such a great programme that got them (women) to relax and to have fun with lots of laughter.

The activity which was well appreciated by the women through their participation, ended with a souvenir photo and cocktail.

The accompanying photos show some highlights of the activity.
