As of January 2022, the Seychelles Licensing Authority has been transferred from the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Trade to that of Investment, Entrepreneurship and Industry (MEIE).

The entity’s move is in line with the latter’s efforts to facilitate the ease of doing business in the country, by improving the application processes by various businesses to obtain relevant licences for operation, as well as enabling their monitoring, post licence allocations.

Deputy chief executive of the Seychelles Licensing Authority (SLA) Jessica Larue explained that the move will also allow the SLA to be more involved and up to date with the development in the business environment under the appropriate ministry.

She said since the SLA has already started reviewing laws and regulations, the ministry will ease the process, in line with the national vision and strategy.

She explained that in view that the ministry’s vision is to generate wealth and create employment responsibly in a conducive business environment, the SLA can transform its procedures, operation, policies and laws in line with that vision.

Mrs Larue also confirmed that the structure of the authority will remain the same and that members of the public can rest assured that the SLA will continue with its normal operation.

She however noted that there is a need for staff empowerment to better deliver dynamically, while taking a more consultative approach.
