Tennis: Junior Tournament

Good turnout at youth tournament

With the aim of boosting its youth development programme and pave the way for the future of the country’s tennis, the sports local governing body recently hosted a junior tournament which gathered a satisfactory total of 14 young players.

Hosted by the Seychelles Tennis Association (STA), the tournament held at the Roche Caïman tennis courts brought together seven boys and seven girls who competed in the under-6 years old, under-8 years old and the under-10 years old categories.

In the girls’ under-6 years old group where three players contested, Mia Savy was the grand winner, while Larissa Armond was the group’s runner-up. Maxime Laporte finished third in the group.

In the same age group for boys, only two players took part and Dyan Laporte was the winner ahead of second-place Conrad Opperman.

Only one player registered to play in the girls’ under-8 years old competition and automatically Diandra Laporte who played with the boys, was crowned as the girls’ winner.

For the boys, Jalil Mathiot was the winner, finishing ahead of Naddy Joubert who was second overall.

Five players, precisely two girls and three boys, played in the under-10 years old category and in the girls’ tournament, Hailey Wirtz emerged as the grand winner, ahead of second-placed Leah Rideau-Mein who was the runner-up.

For the boys, there were three players in the competition and it was Adrian Shroff who was the group winner. He finished ahead of Nelis Opperman and Stephan Lee who was second and third respectively.

The tournament was being officiated by Nicolaus Leringa and Marcus Maria, while players received their medals and trophies from STA treasurer Cornelius Opperman and ordinary member Peggy Chang-Tave.

STA would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to the organisers, parents and players for making this tournament a success.

The following are some of the photos taking during and after the competition.
