Children from orphanages and members of two families who lost all their belongings in a fire incident at Les Cannelles, Anse Royale  recently, yesterday received  a variety of second hand as well as new  household and health sanitary items from the Seychelles Meteorology Authority.

The items donated include standing and table fans, standing hand sanitisers, face masks, water dispensers and kitchen towels which will go to the children of Foyez de La Solitude (La Misère), Foyez de Nazareth (Anse Etoile) and Foyez de La Providence (St Elizabeth, Victoria) and two refrigerators  which will go to the two destitute  families.

The items had been given to the Seychelles Meteorology Authority (SMA) by 60 international scientists who left the country recently after spending three months studying the atmospheric variables such as the temperature, clouds wind etc… at different levels in the atmosphere. They had been using those items during their stay.

It was the chief executive of SMA, Vincent Amelie, who presented the items during a short  ceremony that took place at the Foyez de La Providence (Ste Elizabeth) in the presence of other SMA employees.

He said the SMA will not be using those items so as a goodwill gesture for the festive season, they decided to donate them to deserving individuals.

On behalf of the orphanages, Sister Françoise Verolantosoa thanked the SMA for the donation. She noted that they (sisters) will pray for the staff so that they continue with their good work  to assist with climate change adaptation in the country.

Emily Kilindo and Jenita Pharce, victim and relative respectively of one family affected by the    fire, thanked the SMA for the generous donation and all the other people who are helping their families to get their lives back together.
