Run for a Good Cause Project      Joel Melanie initiates ‘Runners of Charity’ to bring more flare to his projects

Joel Melanie in action

After successfully completing his ‘Run for a Good Cause Project’ as a lone runner, Joel Melanie will now undertake his future projects within a group, after putting up a team named ‘Runners of Charity’.

Mr Melanie started the personal project in 2018 with the aim of raising funds for financially-struggling associations towards infrastructure development or other facilities to provide long-term support for Seychellois families and children.

The organisations which benefitted from the projects include the Unique Foundation, the Seychelles Stroke Foundation, the Seychelles Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the National Association for the Disabled.

Speaking to Sports NATION, Mr Melanie explained that after running alone for a while, he thinks that it will make more sense and add more flare to challenges if it is done as a group.

He said most members of the group were also actively involved in some of his challenges in the past.

Most of them, he said, are part of a WhatsApp group created as a network to keep them together following the cancellation of most major runs due to the health restrictions in line with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

To end the year 2021, Mr Melanie and ‘Runners of Charity’ hosted a special run two weeks ago where they covered 21km as preparation for February 27, 2022 when they will start their charity projects for the year.

He thanked all those who have been contributing continuously and generously towards the cause and also encouraged more people to join in, making a difference in the life of vulnerable members of our society.
