Basketball: Land Marine Cup competition

HotShots … Women’s winners

HotShots, Anse Etoile, PLS Hawks winners

Almost two years after sports in Seychelles ground to a halt because of the Covid-19 pandemic, basketball lovers in Seychelles have had the chance to see their favourite players and teams in action again during the Land Marine-sponsored cup competitions for women’s and men’s teams of divisions one and two.

HotShots (women), Anse Etoile (men division two) and PLS Hawks (men division one) are the champions after triumphing in Saturday’s finals played at Victoria Gymnasium.

It is obvious from what we saw that most of the players looked rusty as a result of the very long layoff and it has been a real challenge for them to clear the psychological hurdle to be ready for the competition.

Coaches have had to adjust their plays just to be able to get their players to enjoy themselves on the court.

In the women’s final, coach Philip Arissol’s HotShots beat B Challenge 47-31 to take home the title.

Anse Etoile triumphed on a 63-55 score against Cascade Bullets in the men’s division two final, while PLS Hawks tamed Beau Vallon 90-80 in the men’s division one final.

According to a reliable source, the next event on the Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) calendar is the Curtain-raiser competition expected to be played during the second or third week of January 2022. This will be followed by the national leagues in March.
