- 145 graduates accredited during hybrid ceremony
After successfully completing many months of studies and hard work in their bid to acquire more skills and knowledge, a group of 145 graduates were accredited by The Guy Morel Institute (TGMI) yesterday during a hybrid graduation ceremony.
The qualifications vary from certificate, diploma, up to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Out of the group, 100 graduates received University of Seychelles (UniSey)-accredited Certificates in General Management (43), Human Resource Management (14), Office Management (21), Public Procurement (22), while 43 were awarded the UniSey-accredited Diploma in General Management (23), Human Resource Management (6), Public Finance Management (14).
Two graduates received the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification which is equivalent to a masters degree.
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the institute held a hybrid graduation ceremony – a blend of both virtual and in-person graduation events, arranged by maintaining both social distancing and health protocols – in the presence of executive director Shella Mohideen, chief executive of the Tertiary Education Commission, Jean-Michel Domingue, staff of the TGMI, along with a small group of students.
In her address for the occasion, Mrs Mohideen commended the graduates for being an extraordinary group, having successfully completed their studies during some really challenging times.
She acknowledged that the graduating class has had to overcome extraordinary circumstances, but forged ahead, and forged the path that led to this accomplishment.
“Today, as you reminisce on your achievements forged through setbacks, be encouraged that you were born for such a time as this,” said Mrs Mohideen, who further added that they should celebrate their great accomplishments, their promising journey ahead, as well as how they were able to overcome the difficulties on their journey with dignity.
She also reminded the graduates that TGMI has equipped them with skills, knowledge and the right mindset to become fresh emerging leaders for our beloved country which requires their light, energy, positivity, resilience, and innovativeness.
Mrs Mohideen also had words of gratitude for the UniSey which provided the academic direction for the qualifications of the graduating class, TGMI parent ministry, the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and the Seychelles Qualifications Authority (SQA) for the oversight, support and advice, and the Seychelles Business Studies Academy (SBSA) for its support.
She also thanked the employing organisations of the graduates for investing towards the empowerment of the graduating class.
Mrs Mohideen urged them to get returns on these investments, while asking them to create a conducive environment for them to put into practice what they have learned.
Best performer in course was also rewarded during the ceremony with certificate and a voucher to follow any two short courses of their choice, or one stand-alone course of any TGMI-accredited programmes within the next two years.
The outstanding performers were Kimberly Joseph (Certificate in General Management), Barbara Morel (Certificate in Office Management), Burgitta Mondon (Certificate in Office Management), Mauressa Theresine (Certificate in Public Procurement), Juliette Florine (Diploma in General Management), Madge Adrienne (Diploma in Human Resource Management), and Elly Malbrook (Diploma in Public Finance Management).
