Hassan Wasswa Galiwango was yesterday accredited as the first Ugandan high commissioner to the Republic of Seychelles, with the presentation of his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan.

During the brief interaction at State House, the pair discussed the means by which to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of agricultural trade.

“Most importantly, we are furthering the bilateral relationship between the Republic of Uganda and the Republic of Seychelles. Also, we want to enhance cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, education, tourism, the judiciary and also to promote trade, especially in agricultural products between the two countries. Uganda is a very beautiful country. It was called the pearl of Africa by Churchill in 1907 and it produces a lot of sugar, a lot of maize, a lot of dairy products, meat, so we can trade fish to Uganda and meat to Seychelles, poultry products, eggs.”

“We are here to establish the relations between the two sister countries.  The relationship between Seychelles and Uganda is traditional. We have been friends for a long time and we are just going to rekindle it and strengthen it under the leadership of the two presidents,” Mr Galiwango said.

Dr Galiwango will be based in Kenya.

Uganda and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on April 6, 1992.
