SPTC deplores physical assault on its drivers |16 November 2021

The Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) has deplored three incidents during the last four days where its drivers have been physically assaulted.

In a press release, the SPTC yesterday confirmed it has recorded an unprecedented increase in incidents and aggression towards its bus drivers on duty.

Three separate incidents were recorded whereby drivers have been physically assaulted. The first incident was reported on Monday November 8 at the Victoria terminal where the driver was threatened with a machete. On the same day, at Mont Buxton a private vehicle owner boarded a bus and assaulted a bus driver and the third incident occurred on Tuesday November 9 at Pointe Au Sel when a passenger who had refused to pay his bus fare, dragged the driver out of the bus and assaulted him. The driver was badly injured and reported to the hospital for medical assistance.

All these three incidents have been reported to the police and are under investigation.

The SPTC deplores these unwarranted acts of aggression and is appealing to the general public for support in such incidents.

The SPTC is also advising members of the public that there may be disruption to the service on these routes.
