Anse Boileau secondary school rewards outstanding IGCSE performers   |15 November 2021

The award recipients in the presence of S4 students and teachers

Four students from Anse Boileau secondary school have been rewarded for their outstanding performance in the 2020 Cambridge IGCSE Examinations.

A short award presentation ceremony was held recently at the Anse Boileau secondary school to present the awardees with their certificates and tokens.

In view of the Covid-19 restrictions, the event could not be held at the beginning of the year.

The four outstanding performers – Alissa Dogley, Jacob Isnard, Jayant Gondariya and Anicka Louis – did not only receive awards for being the best performers in the different subjects at school level but also for outshining other students at national level. The students received their awards in the presence of the School Council’s chairperson, the school management, teachers and secondary four students.

The head teacher of Anse Boileau secondary school, Jina Labiche, commended the four students for their hard work and stated that, “they have behaved in an exemplary manner both inside and outside of the school and this has helped them to shine in their academic performance”.

She added that as a school they felt honoured to have had them as some of them represented the school in various activities such as Public Speaking, Australian Maths Competition, ‘Konekte Zenn’, Youth Assembly and represented Seychelles at the International Robotics Competition. She hopes that they continue to shine in their future endeavours.

In his address, the School Council’s chairperson, Roger Alphonse, congratulated the four students for their exceptional achievements.

He also thanked their parents who all along guided them in their studies and had given full support to the teachers.

Mr Alphonse encouraged the secondary four students to be inspired by the hard work and discipline displayed by the four awardees.

During the ceremony, Jayant Gondariya was awarded the Best Male Academic performer for the class of 2020. Jayant scored 7 straight A*s in the subjects he sat and was ranked first in Seychelles. Jayant’s effort has been recognised by Cambridge as he was the best performer in the three science subjects – Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

He stated that in order to succeed the students need to work smart and show determination.

Anicka Louis was also awarded the Best Female Academic Performer for the Class of 2020. She passed with 3 ‘A’s, 2 ‘B’s and a C.

Also awarded for her active participation in school life and academic performance, Alissa Dogley received the Best Overall student award in the cohort. Alissa passed with 1 A*, 2 ‘A’s, 1B and 1C.

“Never be discouraged even if you face difficulty,” Alissa said while addressing the students. “Always be respectful and grateful towards your teacher,” she added. She described her studies in upper secondary as tough because with the pandemic she had to adapt to new teaching and learning styles.

Jacob Isnard was also awarded for his achievement. He managed to pass with 2 A*s, 1 A, 1 B and 1 C.

It is also worth noting that Anse Boileau secondary school received a commendation letter from Cambridge following the outstanding performance of the students in the IGCSE Examinations, 2020 series. For 2021, the school acknowledges that there has been significant interruption as a result of the Covid-19 situation. However, the school intends to use the 2020 performance as a benchmark to encourage other students to achieve the same target.

All of the four awardees are currently doing well in their first year at the School of Advanced Level Studies and Seychelles Business Studies Academy. We wish them all good luck.

A group of eleven secondary four students who also sat for the English as a Second Language IGCSE Examination in 2020 performed equally well and were also commended for their very good performance. Their results are as follows:
