Sids ministers meet leadership of Unesco

Ministers of small islands developing states leading the delegations of their respective countries at the ongoing 41st General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, met with the administrative leadership of this international organisation on November 11, 2021.

During this sideline meeting the small islands developing states (Sids) ministers were apprised by the assistant director generals (ADGs) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) of the various programmes within Unesco and their relevance to the Sids agenda.

Education Minister Dr Justin Valentin who is leading the five-man strong Seychelles delegation at this 41st General Conference of Unesco, was among 10 ministers who physically attended this hybrid meeting which some 20 other ministers followed online.

Sids is one of the two priority areas of Unesco which will soon undertake a feasibility study on a proposal to upgrade Sids into a global priority alongside Africa and gender equality.
