La Rosière School closed for safety reasons |09 August 2019

● Students, staff relocated to Belonie secondary

The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development has taken a decision to close the La Rosière School due to structural defects and to relocate students and staff.

The decision was taken this week.

According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, representatives of the ministry in partnership with the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services and Planning Authority conducted two different assessments at La Rosière school last week.

Upon completion of the assessments, a meeting was held on Tuesday August 6, 2019, followed by an emergency visit by an independent engineer. After considering the rationale and recommendations rendered by the above, the ministry took the decision to close the school due to structural defects and to relocate students and staff.

A plan of action is urgently being prepared as follows:

● to relocate La Rosière students and staff to Belonie secondary school,

● to relocate Belonie students and staff to the National Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation (NISTI), situated at Bel Ombre

In accordance with the ministry’s procedures, a meeting was held with parents of Belonie school yesterday at 2.30pm at the STC conference room. Another meeting will be held with parents of La Rosière school today followed by a press conference.

The communique adds that the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development is dedicated and committedto ensuring the safety of students and staff on all schools’ premises.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,” adds the communiqué.
