Seychelles NATION to publish special edition tomorrow to mark government’s one year in office |25 October 2021

Linyon Demokratik Seselwa has been in government for one year since winning the October 22-24, 2020 general elections.

It was on Sunday October 25, 2021 that the Electoral Commission of Seychelles (ECS) announced the results of the three-day elections.

Wavel Ramkalawan, who had previously failed at five attempts in 1998, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2015 to become the president of Seychelles, was declared the winner of the presidential elections along with running mate Ahmed Afif who would become the Vice-President. Their historic landslide victory avoided a second round ballot after garnering 54.9 percent of the votes cast against 43.5 percent for incumbent Danny Faure of the renamed United Seychelles (US) party that had been in power since 1977.

Mr Ramkalawan’s party Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) also won more than a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly with 20 direct seats compared to US’s six. LDS also got five proportional seats and US got four.

On Monday August 26, 2020 at State House, Mr Ramkalawan was inaugurated into office as the fifth President of the Republic of Seychelles.

The inauguration officially marked the beginning of his five-year presidential term, and to commemorate the first anniversary since President Ramkalawan and his party have been in power, Seychelles NATION will bring you a special edition tomorrow.
