Absa Bank Seychelles helps Red Cross Society stock food and sanitary items for families in need |19 October 2021
Absa Bank Seychelles handed over just under 500 items comprising dry goods and hygiene products to the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) in a short ceremony at the bank’s headquarters last week.
“Absa Bank Seychelles is committed to finding new ways to support the communities in which we operate and we want these initiatives to continue in future,” said Akhtar Mamode, acting managing director of Absa Bank Seychelles.
“We remain dedicated to making a meaningful impact on those who need it the most and this is just one of the many activities we have planned until the end of the year,” he said.
Head of marketing and corporate relations at Absa Bank Seychelles, Amanda Bernstein, said that the food and necessary items drive was an internal initiative thought up by Absa Seychelles staff following an appeal for colleague-driven initiatives.
Present to receive the donation was Jean-Yves Joseph, a programme coordinator at the RCSS. He was accompanied by RCSS volunteer Cedrick Francourt.
“We’re very grateful for this donation by Absa Bank Seychelles. Items such as hygiene and sanitary items will go a long way towards helping many families who for some reason or another do not have access to these basic necessities,” said Mr Joseph while speaking at the ceremony.
“A big thank you to our Seychelles colleagues who volunteered with an assortment of basic goods to help families in need,” said Ms Bernstein.
“Absa Bank Seychelles remains committed to being a ‘Force for Good’ in the communities in which we operate and one of our key pillars as a responsible organisation is helping to foster a just society,” she added.
A separate drive is being held by Absa Seychelles staff on Praslin and La Digue to support the communities based on these islands.
Since the beginning of the year Absa Seychelles initiated several donation activities including a blood drive in June of this year, the handing over of special thermometers to help with the routine temperature checks across school campuses in Seychelles. The bank also assisted over 20 organisations with social distancing stickers to help ensure the department of health guidelines are being adhered to.
