Karting: rounds 6 |19 October 2021
Fabio Williams, Arth Shah and Delroy Lionnet extend championship lead
The Seychelles Karting Association ran round number six and eight of the 2021 karting championships last weekend and with bonus points being awarded till the end of the season, competition has become more intense with some drivers gaining ground on others while others fell further back.
On Saturday afternoon at the Champions Park Raceway, Roche Caïman, the Junior and Cadet classes had their races.
In the Junior class, Darrel Gabriel took victory in the final after a nail-biting battle with both championship leader Arth Shah and Tamnay Raghwani. Tamnay was the fastest from qualifying and just lost out in the final to Darrel who made a good move into the twisty hairpin to take the lead which he held to the finish.
Tamnay finished just behind him with Arth taking third place which increased his lead in the table, while Terence Anderson, now promoted to the Juniors, took fourth place overall.
In the Cadets, it was Enzo Lionnet’s turn to take victory over his twin brother Delroy with Johan Cadeau placed third.
This class was run together with the Juniors but on separate grids at the rear, but Enzo somehow overtook all the juniors by the end before the results were classified according to their respective classes. In the process, Enzo set a fastest lap time (FTD) of 43.818 seconds for his class.
Fabio Williams took another victory in the senior’s Intermediate class on Sunday morning and looks like he may have one hand on the trophy with just two rounds to go.
His closest rival Loïc Scharfenberg lost valuable points after he could not compete due to illness. This let in Christian Bastienne to second place and Cedric Ah-Time is third. Dean Maillet finished fourth, while Jean-David Melanie was placed fifth, Mitra Labrosse sixth and Eric Maillet seventh.
Carlos Renaud was the unluckiest driver of the day after suffering engine issues just as the final got going.
At the front, Fabio and Christian were in a group of four together with Jean-David and Cedric and they made good progress opening a gap on the other group consisting of Dean, Mitra and Eric which dropped further back during the 12-lap final. With the faster pace of the top four, Fabio managed to clock the fastest lap time of the day (FTD) of 43.889 seconds.
With the two rounds left before the season ends, Arth Shah heads the Junior class with 135 points, Delroy Lionnet leads the Cadets with 135 pts and Fabio Williams the Intermediates with 142 points.
