The Minister for Finance, Economic Planning and Trade, Naadir Hassan, met with the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Thani Al Zeyoudi, on Thursday October 14.
The bilateral meeting was held on the sideline of the sixth Global Business Forum on Africa, held in Dubai from October 13-14, 2021.
“Our discussion centered on potential areas of collaboration between Seychelles and the UAE, especially in terms of investments, such as in the sectors of energy, hospitality and blue economy,” Minister Hassan said.
The Global Business Forum on Africa, held against the backdrop of the world economy being ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic, brought together business leaders and high-level policy makers, from both the public and private sector to discuss opportunities and areas of collaboration between the two regions.
Participants discussed the importance of adapting and identifying new areas of economic development, such as; what is the role of innovation, collaboration and, above all, trade in enabling different solutions, and that is why the forum was held under the theme ‘transformation through trade’.
“We have all learned a valuable lesson from the pandemic and that is we need to diversify and transform our economy. The whole world is heading in that direction and so is Seychelles. We are currently laying the foundation to diversify and transform our economy, in order to become more resilient,” added the minister.
The Global Business Forum on Africa is organised by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
