TRNUC members Eline Moses, Marie-May Léon resign |29 September 2021
Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission members Eline Moses and Marie-May Léon have resigned.
It is not clear why the two members have tendered in their resignation as they did not want to talk to Seychelles NATION last night, saying they will do so at a later date.
Mrs Léon was appointed a member of the Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission (TRNUC) on May 9, 2019 following recommendations made to him by the Constitutional Appointments Authority (CAA).
But she took her oath of allegiance and official oath before former President Danny Faure on June 29, 2019 at the State House, together with Arch-Bishop James Wong Yin Song as they could not attend the original ceremony on May 9.
Mrs Léon is a teacher and specialist in special and inclusive education by profession.
It was on April 14, 2020 during a brief ceremony held at the State House that well-known civil society advocate Eline Moses was sworn in as the seventh member of the TRNUC. She took her oath before ex-President Faure as required by the Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission Act 2018.
Mrs Moses filled the vacancy created by the resignation of one of the two original non-Seychellois commissioners, Pierre Rosario Domingue, in October 2019.
Mrs Moses’ appointment was recommended to former President Faure by the CAA. At the time the Act was drafted in 2018 the law required that there are five Seychellois commissioners and two non-Seychellois commissioners but was subsequently amended by the National Assembly in December 2019, to allow for the appointment of a Seychellois to the vacant post.
