Patricia Padayachy, the new chairperson of the Children Special Fund board
Finance, Economic Planning and Trade Minister Naadir Hassan has appointed members of the board of the Children Special Fund.
The chairperson of the board is Patricia Padayachy who works at the Central Bank of Seychelles.
The vice-chairperson is Linda William-Melanie who is the principal secretary for Social Affairs, within the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs.
The other four members are: Lenny Palit (Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Trade), Terryll Adrienne (Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Trade), Line Mancienne (Institute of Early Childhood Development) and Merna Eulentin (Ministry of Education).
The appointment of the board is in accordance to the Children Special Fund (Amendment) Notice of S.I 4 of 2018, and as per Section 5, which states that the Fund shall be administered by a board.
The appointment of the new members of the board of the Children Special Fund Board took effect on September 14, 2021 and their mandate is for a period of three years.
The Children Special Fund has always existed as the Children’s Fund and was being managed by the Office of the President.
The fund was established to review projects proposed by individuals, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and registered organisations, which are of some benefit to persons below the age of 18 and which address a specific need.
Educational institutions may also request funding for school-level activities. As well as projects that are of educational, social, or medical value or importance, the fund is also open to activities that promote talent and skills development, including in arts, music, sports among others. Similarly, national projects that may be addressing social needs and contribute towards the betterment of the children at community, district or institutional level.
