To ensure that challenge and outward bound events are blended in Seychelles’ sports, a new association has been set up to allow every member of the community the opportunity to take part in challenging games, sports and recreational activities.

The Seychelles Challenge and Outward Bounds Association (Scoba) which functions under the umbrella of the National Sports Council (NSC) will cater for most of the outdoor activities which previously fell under the Sports for All Unit within the NSC.

Its executive committee is made up of Andrew Paul (chairperson), Vivienne Vadivello (vice-chairperson), Christianne Commettant (secretary), Samantha William (treasurer), Jude Francourt (logistics), Mary-Joe Joubert (marketing and promotion) and Raymond Florentine (trail manager).

Among its main objectives in promoting a healthy lifestyle in Seychelles, the Scoba will:

  • organise competitions and activities nationally and prepare rules and regulations concerning same,
  • represent and promote the interest and welfare of the members,
  • develop, promote and assist with the instructors and training members,
  • raise funds for the purpose of carrying out the objects of the association,
  • purchase, hire, make or acquire or provide and maintain or otherwise purchase, sell or dispose of all kinds of equipment and other things required or necessary or which may be conveniently used in connection with the objects of the association,
  • purchase, lease, build or otherwise acquire and to real or other rights of property installations buildings, equipment or other appliance which may seem to the association necessary or suitable or convenient for the Scoba’s business or any part thereof on such terms and conditions as it shall deem expedient.

As a non-profit organisation, the Scoba will also promote camping and recreational activities, promote the local heritage through nature walk, as well as promote coastal exploration through various activities including kayaking and boating.

Outward bound activities provide members of the community with the opportunity to get involved in adventurous experiences designed to strengthen interpersonal and team relationships and performance.
