Plaisance MNA donates books to district’s 4-5 year olds on International Literacy Day |09 September 2021
To mark this year’s International Literacy Day yesterday, a group of four and five-year-old children from the Plaisance district, 70 of them, each received a book from the district’s MNA Richard Labrosse.
This was during a brief gathering at the Plaisance DA’s office in the presence of the district’s youth committee representatives, the district’s administrator Lilianne Biong, some of the children, the creche coordinator and teachers.
Addressing everyone present for the event Hon. Labrosse placed a lot of emphasis on the importance of reading especially starting from early childhood.
He has encouraged the children to make books and reading their number one friends.
He has also called on and urged parents to read to their children and encouraged them to read as much as they can and to be very book friendly.
Hon. Labrosse, whose birthday also falls on International Literacy Day, said he has been nurturing the initiative for some time noting that it is a way to encourage children to be more interested in reading.
“I plan to continue with this initiative every year of my mandate, giving a book each to children of different age groups each year,” said Hon. Labrosse.
The short ceremony ended with a vote of thanks and the cutting of a cake.
