CBS hosts training for MSMEs in collaboration with financial sector stakeholders |08 September 2021

The Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) is hosting a three-day training session to enhance the financial education of entrepreneurs in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector.

The training workshop is being held virtually and was launched yesterday afternoon by the Governor of the Central Bank Caroline Abel.

In her opening address, Governor Abel noted that the CBS’ financial education journey formally began in 2017 following a baseline survey conducted in 2016, which among other areas of challenge, highlighted MSMEs as a key target area.

“As Seychelles embarks on the path towards economic recovery, the contribution of MSMEs is critical when we consider that they account for a large percentage of the private sector and contribute towards job creation and economic development. It is important that MSMEs are financially educated and receive all the necessary knowledge and information to increase their ability to make well-informed financial decisions to better manage their businesses. Empowerment and financial education will enhance MSME contribution to revive our economy and ensure a sustainable recovery,” said Ms Abel.

The CBS is hosting the workshop in collaboration with local and international stakeholders, notably the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Department of Entrepreneurship and Industry, Enterprise Seychelles Agency (ESA), School of Business Studies and Accounting (SBSA), Development Bank of Seychelles (DBS) and Absa Bank (Seychelles) Limited.

The agenda covers a range of financial and business-related topics to provide participants with knowledge and understanding of various available services and support, as well as tools that they can use to better manage their businesses. Topics include business innovation & e-commerce, budgeting & forecasting, basic understanding of QuickBooks, credit facilities for MSMEs, among others.

Interested participants may still register to participate in the workshop, which ends tomorrow, Thursday September 9, through the following link:
