Karting: Championship Round 3

Delroy Lionnet, Arth Shah and Fabio Williams championship leaders

  • Jean-David Melanie registers best performance of the day

Round 3 of the 2021 Karting Championship took place last weekend with the Cadets and Juniors racing on Saturday afternoon and the Intermediate on Sunday morning.

In the Cadets class, Delroy Lionnet has put down his marker to be the favourite to win this year’s title by making it three out of three wins so far. His twin brother Enzo could not match him this time but he took second place with Johan Cadeau third, while newcomer Terence Anderson took a fine fourth and has now successfully moved from a Novice to a full Cadet licensed driver.

In Juniors, it was Darrel Gabriel who took victory, with championship leader Arth Shah inheriting second place after Tamnay Raghwani, who was easily holding that position, spun in the ‘S’ bend during the closing laps and dropped to third.

On the Sunday events for the Intermediates, Fabio Williams took another victory, but this time he had to fight off a much improved Jean-David Melanie who tailed him from start to finish for second, while Cedric Ah-Time took third place.

Carlos Renaud finished fourth, while last round winner Loic Scharfenberg took fifth, being slightly off form as he was nursing a previous injury.

Dean Maillet claimed sixth while his younger brother, Eric Maillet, who was the fastest in qualifying and won the Pre Final, ran into fuel issues in the final and was classified last after he stopped in the Pits.

Jean-David claimed the performance of the day for his great improved drive and also as he had earlier been fastest in qualifying.

The championship leaders per category so far are Delroy Lionnet with 75 points (Cadet), Arth Shah with 68 points (Juniors) and Fabio Williams on 68 points (Intermediates).
