Chairman of Cable and Wireless pays courtesy call on VP Afif |28 August 2021
The chairman of the board of Cable & Wireless, Andrew Bainbridge, paid a courtesy call on Vice-President Ahmed Afif at State House yesterday.
Mr Bainbridge was accompanied to State House by Minister for Finance, Economic Planning & Trade Naadir Hassan and principal secretary for information, communication and technology Benjamin Choppy.
The courtesy call at State House yesterday followed a meeting held between the shareholders of Cable & Wireless earlier in the morning the same day.
“It was an opportunity for us to think about the opportunities in the industry but also how we go about responding to the government’s call to address internet charges and so on. It was an opportunity to reflect on where the country is going and how we can participate in the infrastructure development.”
Mr Bainbridge noted that, during their meeting, Vice-President Afif reiterated the government’s desire for internet charges to decrease and the digitisation of the Seychelles economy as announced by Minister Hassan earlier this week.
“I reassured him of our commitment to do that, to proactively participate in that and that we will respond to him in writing with some plans and proposals,” stated Mr Bainbridge.
Mr Bainbridge, a British citizen who is also a naturalised Seychellois, is one of the shareholders of Cable & Wireless which was purchased from Liberty Latin America at a cost of US $130 million by Seychellois.
The telecom company is now 100% Seychellois owned, operating under CWS Investment Ltd.
