Vijay International School students celebrate excellent exam results |23 August 2021

IGCSE level students at Vijay International School have received their results from Cambridge International Examinations and the outcomes were superb.

Following good A-Level results earlier in the week, students at VISP were able to secure outstanding grades at IGCSE level as well. This, in spite of a year where learning has been heavily disrupted by Covid-19 with enforced school closures coming at difficult times for these students as they prepared for their exams.

Individual students scored superb outcomes, while the headline figures for the school overall were very pleasing.

Top performing S5 students were Luke Pagel (2A*, 5A, 2B, 1D), Calvin Esther (3A*, 3A, 5B), Ingrid Morel (5A, 5B) and Nelza Gardette (1A*, 2A, 6B).

Overall, 78% of students scored the benchmark 5 A* - C grades usually required to move on and study at Advanced Level.

The school was also pleased that 100% of exams were passed and 72% were passed at the higher level, C or above.

The majority of the cohort will remain at VISP to complete their Advanced Level studies.

S4 students at VISP also sat their English Language and French exams a year early and the results were also excellent with the vast majority of students scoring C grade or better in both subjects. In particular Davide Bouchereau scored A* in both subjects while Aarya Senthil and Anjali Grandcourt scored A*A across the two subjects. These students will progress on to S5 where they will sit between 7 and 9 more IGCSEs next year.

Headteacher Mark Howell paid tribute to the work ethic of these students, who complete these exams in such difficult circumstances. “In many countries students did not sit examinations this year due to concerns about Covid-19. However in Seychelles the tests went ahead as normal, despite school closures. This meant that these students had to prepare for these exams independently with only remote teacher support for periods of time. These students should be more proud than ever with their achievements, which are very well deserved indeed.”

Mr Howell went on to praise parents and staff for their contributions to these results. “Covid has changed the role of teachers and parents in the education of young people. Staff had to adapt to delivering the curriculum in a mixture of face to face and remote lessons while parents had to support students to a greater extent than is usual. These results really are therefore a community effort and we should all be proud of the outcomes given the very difficult circumstances.”

Places at VISP are still available for September in some classes, including IGCSE and A-Level classes and enrolment is taking place now. Prospective families should be made aware that waiting lists are now in effect in some primary classes.
