   COGA updated on port projects

The Committee on Government Assurances (COGA) of the National Assembly chaired by Hon. Sylvanne Lemiel continued their visits on Friday August 6 to evaluate the progress made on government assurances before the National Assembly in 2019.

Following on from the visit to the projects initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Change on Thursday, the committee organised a meeting and site visit to the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA). The aim was to update COGA on the Port Victoria Rehabilitation and Extension Project and the La Digue jetty project.

After the meeting, the delegation were taken on a boat tour where members had the opportunity to see for themselves the area where the extension was to be constructed. However, the authority has faced difficulties in starting the project which has been initiated since 2007, and, as it stands, the proposed size of the extension had had to be decreased.

The project is complex and proper planning is essential as was said by chief executive of SPA, Ronny Brutus.

He further explained that the vision is to have a modern port and one which is in compliance with the international standards and norms. In addition, Mr Brutus also stated that the delay they faced was due to technical and financial difficulties, which has resulted in the project being delayed.

In attendance were committee members, Hon. Norbert Loizeau, Hon. Desheila Bastienne, Hon. Philippe Monthy, Hon. Wallace Cosgrow, Hon. Rocky Uranie, Hon. Richard Labrosse and management staff of the SPA.

The accompanying photos show some highlights of the port visit.
