Coga satisfied with agricultural project assurances

The Committee on Government Assurances of the National Assembly is satisfied with progress on the project assurances of the various departments under the Ministry of Agriculture,Climate Change and Environment.

Following a meeting and visit conducted yesterdayto the small and large animal quarantine facility at Providence, Anse Boileau, the Pig and Genetic Research Centre at Grand Anse, and lastly the Sir Selwyn Selwyn Clarke market, chairperson of the Committee on Government Assurances (Coga) SylvanneLemiel expressed satisfaction at the progress made on the project assurances, although she proposed that the ministry works on promoting the various projects, and work of the departments, to keep the public abreast with the developments and advancements.

“We saw so much today, and in terms of the money spent, it is value for our money what we saw as Coga. It is important that you promote your work. But, as the chairperson of the committee, on behalf of my team, we are really satisfied with everything that we saw,” added Mrs Lemiel.

“And I hope that more money will be injected into the agriculture budget so you can complete all your projects,” Hon. Lemiel stated.

Hon. Lemiel also expressed to Agriculture, Climate Change and EnvironmentMinister Flavien Joubert and officials, that the committee would also like the opportunity to visit projects completed and funded under the Livestock Trust Fund, such as the renovations on the ex-BBC veterinary laboratory, rehabilitation works on the Union Vale veterinary clinic, and the preparation of terrain at the La Semence Youth Enterprise.

In turn, Minister Joubert thanked committee members for accompanying himself, management and officials of the National Biosecurity Agency (NBA) and the Seychelles Agricultural Agency (SAA) on the visit. He also called out to them for support in the ministry’s endeavours.

We have a lot of ambitions and many things we want to accomplish. We count on your support in our efforts to expand agriculture and improve its performance in the country. And I hope that when we come before the assembly, we can dialogue towards ensuring that agriculture is allocated resources,” said Minister Joubert.

“But at the same time, between the sessions, it would be good if we could have these conversations with persons who are politically-implicated so they understand where exactly we are coming from and how they can support our efforts,” Minister Joubert added.

The numerous projects are in different phases, with some nearing completion within the third quarter of the year.
