Orphanage benefits from beauty queen’s donation |13 August 2013
Seychelles’ beauty queen Agnes Gerry has said she is committed to helping the youth get a good education.
Ms Gerry said this when she presented a cheque for R13,931.15 to four boys of the Foyer De Nazareth in the presence of Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) chief executive Sherin Naiken, other STB representatives and one of the nuns from the orphanage.
“The Miss Seychelles… Another World 2013 contestants decided to unite together and work towards bringing you aid towards your educational development,” said Ms Gerry during the presentation ceremony held at the STB headquarters in Bel Ombre.
Ms Naiken said that the gesture is an initiative of the STB as well as that of the Miss Seychelles 2013 contestants.
“It demonstrates the slogan ‘Beauty with a purpose’ as it is a gesture whereby we are remembering those who are less able in society, hence lending a helping hand,” said Ms Naiken.
The money was raised through a sponsored walk and will go towards an educational project. It was decided that the money would go to the 11 boys of the orphanage after discussions brought to light that they lack certain educational resources.
Ms Gerry added that the money will be used to pay teachers to provide extra classes after school to help the boys perfect and at the same time develop their capacity in relation to their education.
One of the boys from the orphanage thanked all who have contributed towards the project.
