Fun-filled afternoon for Roche Caiman citizens |26 June 2018

A group of senior citizens from the Roche Caiman district was hosted to a special lunch on Sunday afternoon, a tradition initiated by the G.S. Pillay family to coincide with the late G.S. Pillay’s birthday.

Vice-President Vincent Meriton and his family, the present MNA of the district Audrey Vidot, the former MNA Jiovanna Charles as well as the district administrator Wilbur Omatt all joined the senior citizens and members of the late G.S. Pillay’s family to share lunch.

Senior citizens from Roche Caiman had come out in large numbers to partake in the various Indian spicy dishes which included chicken biryani, chapatti, a variety of different curries, grilled fish, other meat dishes and a large selection of salad and local chutneys.

Addressing the audience VP Meriton thanked Mr Pillay’s family members for being faithful in organising the lunch every year which provides the senior citizens with an opportunity to meet in a large group and to socialise.

He also availed of the occasion to sincerely thank the senior citizens for their hard work and great contributions to society and the development of their community.

“Thank you for your presence . It is an occasion for you to enjoy and appreciate each other, share in some fun, to socialise and be happy,” VP Meriton told the senior citizens.

VP Meriton also bestowed appreciation and gratitude on all the different groups and movements in the districts who are defending the cause of and supporting senior citizens and pushing to realise  programmes and activities that the government initiate to be carried out with the participation of the senior citizens themselves and encouraging them to take part and engage more in district life.

As for the G.S.Pillay family, VP Meriton expressed heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for this gesture which dates back several years now and for all the activities they undertake in the district.

Simon Lespoir, on behalf of his fellow senior citizens, also had words of appreciation and gratitude to the G.S. Pillay family.

“As you operate a business in the community we contribute enormously to make your business flourish and expand and we therefore appreciate when you give something back to our community. For this we are very grateful and say thank you,” Mr Lespoir said.

Sujitha, a granddaughter of Mr Pillay, thanked the senior citizens for their presence and the appreciation they show for the activity every year while Vadus, another granddaughter, cut a cake together with Mr Omatt.

The afternoon ended with traditional entertainment activities including singing of romance by the senior citizens while a group of young people also demonstrated their talents and skills in our traditional dance.

The accompanying photographs show highlights of the event.
