The handover ceremony

The Chinese embassy has donated a variety of educational materials to the Pointe Larue primary school on the occasion of Children’s Day yesterday.

The gifts, comprising educational materials such as pens and pencils, board games and school bags, were presented by the Chinese ambassador Yu Jing Song to a group of pupils in the presence of the district’s member of the National Assembly, Jude Valmont, teachers and parents.

Mr Valmont thanked Ambassador Yu and said the donation will enable the pupils to advance in their studies and spoke of the China –Seychelles friendly relations.

“I’m very pleased with the contribution that has been given by Ambassador Yu. Over the years, I’ve seen the Pointe Larue primary school move forward, building new gates, new walls and even achieving a higher standard of education. I, myself, have been a resident of Pointe Larue my whole life, and it’s great to see how we have moved forward. Education is very important, and it’s our job to teach and educate you pupils, so that one day, you may lead,” said Mr Valmont.

The pupils then were treated to a surprise performance by local artist Sandra, who invited them to sing along in this festive mood.

On her part, Ambassador Yu explained how great an honour it is to assist the school.

“It’s a pleasure to be here today, to help celebrate Children’s Day. I know you’ve been working very hard at school and today you receive a token of my gratitude for the amazing work you’ve been doing. I would like to thank all the people involved in educating these pupils, including all parents and the teachers. As Mr Valmont said, I also value the friendship between China and Seychelles and I hope that this relationship continues in the future,” said Ambassador Yu.
