La Digue school children celebrate their day |02 June 2018

It was in an atmosphere of joy that the children from the La Digue crèche, primary and secondary school celebrated Children’s Day together yesterday.

After hosting themselves to lunch, the children danced away in a hop in the school’s dining hall.

The colourful decorated classrooms gave the extra ambience of festivity at the school which started with the school’s assembly. Present were the island’s elected member of the National Assembly, Noline Sophola; district administrator Barbara Barallon; the chairman of the school council, Agnes Runciman; teachers (both current and past); parents and students.

A variety of entertainment was on the programme which brought joy and laughter to all as the students, teachers and parents participated in games, dances and songs.

The games created most of the excitement as participants engaged in musical chair games, dancing on paper, balloon dancing and obstacle race competitions to name a few.

The highlight of the entertainment was a fashion show hosted by a group of boys from S5 who paraded in girls’ attire. The crowd had to   identify them.

It was after lunch that things heated up as the students of all ages and their teachers danced away to the sound of traditional and modern music which ended in the afternoon.

Eveline Rose, the deputy head for primary, read the message from the school’s head teacher, Michel Madeleine, who was not present. In his message Mr Madeleine noted that with all the social ills that surround the children’s environment, we must continue to provide a safe and loving environment in which all children can grow as well as giving them ample and equal opportunities through which they can make great strides to later contribute to the progress of the nation.

Mr Madeleine also told the children that as they enjoy themselves they should bear in mind to stay away from social ills, listen to their parents and teachers and use all opportunities offered to them.

Most of the children Seychelles NATION spoke to said they were really enjoying their day.

The accompanying photos show some highlights of the day at the La Digue school.
