Bel Ombre primary school embraces new technology |27 January 2018
New technology is more integrated into the classroom than ever, as educators and industry insiders hope that students can benefit from and help to build the digital future.
The Bel Ombre primary school yesterday received 40 tablets worth R140,000 from the Rotary Club of Victoria (RCV).
The tablets, destined for P1 and P2 classes, contains 36 different applications aimed at strengthening literacy and numeracy at this level.
The handover of the donation took place at the school’s premises in the presence of the principal secretary (PS) for early childhood, primary and secondary education Odile Decommarmond, the District Governor of Rotary Club International, Indian Ocean Region, Manoj Vaghjee, the president of RCV Charlie Ng Ping Cheun, past president of RCV Jalan Nathan, the head teacher of Bel Ombre primary school Stella Payet, among other guests.
The school has been chosen for being the most improved school over the last three years. In 2014 the school performed below the expected standard. However, from 2015 to 2016 its academic attainment improved considerably.
The results of 2017 show the school among the highest performing school.
Handing over the donation to the school’s head teacher Stella Payet, the past president of RCV Jalan Nathan said the RCV is proud to present such donation to the Bel Ombre primary school.
“We are proud and privileged to have participated in this important project which will benefit the pupils in their education. The project was initiated by PS Decommarmond and today we are proud to donate the tablets to the school,” he said.
Thanking RCV for such donation, PS Decommarmond added that RCV has been a wonderful partner.
“It is to be noted that RCV has been instrumental in partnering with the government and the private sector to implement projects aimed at improving the quality of life of the Seychelles citizen. Today the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development is very happy to be the recipient of this generous donation,” she said.
Learning with technology prepares students for a digital future. It also promotes skills such as communication, problem solving, global awareness, mobile learning among others.
