8th Cable Tunes Award Show |08 January 2018
Taniah scoops up 5 awards
On one of the most awaited nights which celebrate the achievements of talented artists on the local music scene, 22-year-old Taniah Jeremie came out on top by clinching five out of 10 awards of the night.
This was during the 8th Cable Tunes Awards show held, this year, at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino on Saturday.
Taniah came out full force to scoop best female artist of 2017, best single of 2017 (Lopinyon), best album of 2017 (Dan En Zistans), and best live performance of the night.
Taniah and fellow artist Elijah also won best collaboration of 2017 with their hit song Ki Kalite.
Also in the mix was Benting who, for the first time, won the prize for best male artist.
Additionally young emerging artist, Kelly Mathiot, surpassed eight other nominees to win best new artist of 2017.
Louis Gang took first prize in the group/duo category while Extra Big’s Independent Gyal music video received the highest of accolades in the best video clips category. Extra Big also won best selling cable tunes of 2017.
In an interview with the press after the show, Taniah said that her multiple successes on this 8th Cable Tunes Awards show is the combined result of her devoted fan base who have always supported her, as well as hard work on her part.
She further added that her album Dan En Zistans was not an easy album to complete, especially since she is currently studying overseas in Malaysia.
“We have been working on this album since before I left for my studies and it was not an easy thing to do because I had to learn how to balance music with school. But each time I came here for holidays I would dedicate most of my time to my album,” Tania explained.
The same sentiment was expressed by best new artist, Kelly Mathiot, who is currently studying at the Seychelles Business
S
tudies Academy (SBSA) while singing in two different bands, Zenith and Horizons.
“It is hard to juggle the two but I love doing music and I feel that I have a lot more to give,” she said.
As for the best male artist of 2017, Benting, he had this to say: “I’m glad that people are now increasingly appreciating songs about positivity and values because that is what will bring a change in our country.”
The Cable Tunes Awards is hosted by Cable & Wireless Seychelles every year and is a fan-voted award show where customers are encouraged to vote for their favourite nominees via text messages.
The only two award categories that were not voted directly by the fans this year were the best cable tune selling artist and best live performance, with the latter being judged by a panel of jury on the night of the show itself.
A first for the show -- and TéléSesel as well -- was the live broadcast of the show through the TéléSesel channel on the Cable & Wireless cable TV network.
Clive Camille of TéléSesel gave a positive review of the channel’s first-ever live broadcast describing it as “a great feat despite the channel being on air for only 23 weeks”.
Mr Camille also mentioned that there were certain logistical problems that were out of their control such as the delay in starting the event and a small period where they went off-air an hour due to electrical issues at the venue.
“Our team was able to re-broadcast the event as quickly as possible and the show is repeating today [Sunday, January 7] for those who missed it,” Mr Camille stated.
