Maritime academy hosts first recruitment fair |07 December 2017
The Seychelles Maritime Academy (SMA) yesterday hosted its end of the year recruitment fair and open day to showcase its achievement and the vast career opportunities in the marine sector.
The recruitment fair, held at the academy at Providence, was an opportunity to market potential candidates to employers in the maritime industry.
The fair was a great opportunity for many organisations to advertise and interview potential candidates from the final year of the SMA.
During the recruitment fair at least 10 establishments were showcasing their services such has Cousin Island, Seychelles Petroleum Company, Seychelles National Park Authority (SNPA), Job Plus, Hope Consultancy, among others.
The personnel in charge of the student support services Veronica Bristol stated that such fair allows the students to gather more information about a future career in the marine sector.
“When second year students finish their studies, it’s not easy for them to get a job. With this job fair the students are able to interact with the establishments and seek for a potential job. The fair is also an opportunity for the students who by next year will be job seekers to make important connections,” she said.
An employment officer Marinette Freminot was also present to educate the students about my first job scheme.
“It is important that the students learn more about my first job scheme. The students were also able to fill in a registration form, to allow us to look for a job for them more easily. It is hard for a student after completing their studies to seek for a job. We, along with our partners such has Job Plus and Hope Consultancy, try our best to make such transition more comfortable for them,” she said.
The SMA was also marketing two new training programmes to the students.
The two new programmes are the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) course and the Officer Cadet course for navigation.
