La Digue hospital set for major revamp |06 October 2017

Logan Hospital on La Digue will soon get a new roof and tiles, and later be fully redeveloped in two stages.

Health Minister Jean-Paul Adam apprised the island’s member of the National Assembly Noline Sophola of the plans on Saturday in the presence of top officials from his ministry and of the Health Care Agency, including the director of Community Health Services.

The short-term renovation of the existing building and the complete redevelopment of the hospital are laid out in the Seychelles Hospital Redevelopment Master Plan.

“The Health Care Agency is also actively preparing the redevelopment of the whole hospital. The redevelopment will be done in two stages - with the facility eventually consisting of two buildings,” the ministry said in a statement later.

“Once construction is complete, one building will be for outpatient services while the other will provide for inpatients.

“As part of the preparation, the agency will be procuring the services of a medical architect to ensure that the new proposal meets the high standard that the redevelopment master plan requires,” it said.

As soon as the medical plan is complete, works will start on the new building after which services will be moved to the new building while the old one is redeveloped, the minister told stakeholders.

Ms Sophola reminded those present that the project has been a priority for La Digue for many years, and underlined the importance of moving forward as soon as possible.
