The Anglican Diocese of Seychelles rejoices

The Anglican Diocese of Seychelles rejoices and congratulates Bishop James Wong on his election as the new Archbishop of the Anglican in the Indian Ocean.

Bishop Wong was elected during the Provincial Synod held in Curepipe, Mauritius from August 24-26, 2017.

The Provincial Synod was presided by the outgoing ArchBishop of the Province Ian Ernest, who is the current Bishop of Mauritius.

The Thanksgiving service for the handing over of the Archbishop’s staff was held on Sunday August 27, 2017 at the St Andrew’s Church, Quatres Bornes in Mauritius.

The enthronement of the new ArchBishop will be held in Seychelles at a later date.

Bishop James Wong succeeds Bishop Ian Ernest who has served as the Archbishop of the Province over the last eleven years.

Consecrated as Diocesan Bishop on April 19, 2009, Bishop James becomes the 2nd Bishop of the Diocese of Seychelles to be elected as ArchBishop.  The first was Bishop French Chang-Him.

The Seychelles Diocese was represented by Chantale Pouponneau and Reverend Simon Fred, both from the Parish of St Mathew’s Praslin.  It is to be noted that Revd Simon Fred was also elected as one of the permanent members of the Province, during the Synod meeting.

ArchBishop James was expected to arrive in the country yesterday evening.
