The Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) has recorded the largest batch of students willing to become future hotel managers through the Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management (ADHM) course.

Twenty students will be starting their new academic year next week, and the new cohort is the ninth that is welcomed by STA since the course was started in 2008.

They will be starting their first year of studies out of three at the advanced diploma level.

The students will graduated upon completing and passing all their modules including the one-year industry placement. They will then have to pass an interview before proceeding to their next level of studies which is a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies and Hotel Management at the Shannon College in Ireland.

Welcoming the new cohort at the STA yesterday morning were the Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Maurice Loustau-Lalanne, STA’s principal Flavien Joubert, the director of the ADHM course Diana Quatre, Patron of STA Claude Narain, the head of the ADHM representative of the Shannon College Dr Sean Ruane,  the principal secretary for tourism Anne Lafortune, parents and students.

Minister Loustau-Lalanne noted that the STA has achieved a lot of success with the ADHM course, adding that the government will continue to provide the necessary help to support such important course in our industry.

“By having those students undertaking the management course, we will have future local managers who will work in the tourism industry in Seychelles,” he said.

On her side the director of the ADHM course and also the deputy principal of STA, Mrs Quatre, added that the course will allow the students to become confident in life.

“This year we have nine boys, which is a record since we started the ADHM course. It is not an easy process, but with determination and hard work, those students will be able to tackle every obstacle in their way,” she said.

The new cohort comprise Vicky Legaie, Virginie Ernesta, Dereck Gill, Carol David, Heerah Brioche, Richard Rose, Richard Bastille, Kerie-Anne Joubert, Farah Santache, Mike Savy, Delroy Duval, Keren Songoire, Gilbert Sanguyon, Clara Sicobo, Ken William, Ryan Dine, Annie Julienne, Agnes Gerry, Jahny Athanase and May-Ruth Fanny.

A former tour guiding student, Richard Rose, stated that he is ready to undertake such challenge.

“I want to learn more about the tourism industry. I was a former tour guiding student and I’ve got some  knowledge of how the industry works. With such course, I will enhance my knowledge of this important industry and become a future manager,” he said.

Also present to support the new cohort were the newly progressed year three students after completing their second year of studies which is the 12-month industry placement which started on July 1, 2016 and ended on July 31, 2017. These students will now be doing their last year advanced diploma whereby they will have to complete and pass all the modules before graduating on ADHM and proceeding on their final stage at the Shannon College.
