Waves Band making a comeback |03 August 2017
Hype Productions, Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino in collaboration with K-Radio present the return of one of Seychelles’ most successful bands, Waves.
Waves dominated the local music scene in the 80s and 90s until they retired in early 2000. They were known for roadblock show in hotels such as Reef Hotel, Tyfoo, Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay and Plantation Club among others.
They released two albums during their heydays and have featured in pretty much every major event in Seychelles and around the region. It had been rumored that they had been planning to make a full comeback since 2015 when they surprised avid fans with a Valentine’s Day concert at the International Conference Centre Seychelles (ICCS) but they went silent again after that.
However according to band leader Jimmy Savy, Waves band is still active.
"Waves has been and is still active, but taking on only a handful of private events and featuring in some public events, such as the National Day celebrations recently. The band is regularly rehearsing and taking bookings for gigs. Not on a big scale like before but nevertheless they are now officially live again,” he said.
This August 5, 2017 at Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay hotel, they are announcing their full return to commercial gigs like before.
Note this will be their first official cabaret/bal style gig, since they retired all these years ago. Mr Savy explained that this is not a concert where people come to sit down and watch, it’s one where people come to dance and sing along to their favourite song.
Waves will also be inviting on stage some of their loyal friends such Patrick Victor and Joseph Sinon among others.
And it will be at fitting venue that holds so many success stories for the band.
“The reason behind hosting such event at a hotel rather the music stadium or ICCS is simply because of great public demand to bring back such entertainment to hotels,” said Hype Production boss Daniel Vadivello.
“Hotels such as Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay, Reef Hotel, Plantation Club were ‘THE’ spot back in the days, where visitors and locals alike would get to enjoy local music together. It’s unfortunate that such a good thing was allowed to fade away and die. Local music plays such a vital role in our culture, and is a great selling point for our tourism industry. It’s so sad when you visit local hotels and it’s so quiet or you find a DJ playlist or a duo playing international covers with barely any locals around,” he said.
“But not anymore,” said Mr Vadivello. “We are fighting hard to bring back local bands and events to hotels. Hence why together with the great support of Mr Pravin, the general manager of Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay hotel and his excellent team we have been able to resurrect this movement since the start of 2017 with Joseph Sinon, Philip Toussaint and now the famous Waves band all gracing the stage at Berjaya. Having hosted events and concerts at pretty much all venues in Seychelles we have found that people crave for somewhere that they can dress up to go, where they can eat, drink and dance in comfort and safety, and not have to worry about fights, parking, among others. But that cannot be guaranteed at many other venues than hotels. That said we only sell a limited number of tickets as we want to ensure the comfort in enjoyment for those in attendance.”
Tickets are R250 inclusive of a welcome drink and midnight soup. But if you want to partake in the buffet dinner as well then the whole package is R750.

Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay is also offering 10 percent discount on rooms for the night for all ticket holders.
