Double celebrations on Children’s Day at Plaisance secondary school as it marks silver jubilee |02 June 2017

 

 

Students of Plaisance secondary school had a double celebration yesterday as they celebrated Children’s Day and the silver jubilee of the school.

The celebrations started with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by the Minister for Education and Human Resource Development Joel Morgan and the head teacher Raymonde Lavigne.

Also present to grace the occasion were Health Minister Jean Paul Adam, principal secretaries, key educational officers, district authorities, past students, members of the school council as well as students and teachers.

During the general assembly, Bishop French Chang-Him and Deacon Louis Agathine, who were both present  at the official opening of the school 25 years ago, were given the honour to  lead  prayers and bless the school once again.

Minister Morgan delivered a keynote address after which he was handed a copy of the school’s magazine as well as a donation of educational materials from the year two primary students of the Seychelles Institute for Teacher Education (Site) .

Four staff members of the school who clocked 25 years of service and past head teachers were also presented with tokens.

The four members who clocked 25 years were religion teacher Deacon Agathine, English teacher Bharti Shah, laboratory technician Robert Gappy and general assistant Melanie Balette.

Various performances were held with songs composed especially for the occasion by the students and teachers’ band as well as a testimony by past student Nathalie Rose.

A facebook page for the school was also launched to encourage and promote good values, achievements and successes of the school.

Following the launch, those present were able to view a small exhibition of the school’s achievements over the past quarter of a century and the school’s magazine was also on sale.

When he addressed everyone present Minister Morgan highlighted the significance of International Children’s Day which he described as a global celebration of the rights of children in different parts of the world followed by a brief history of the evolution of the school.

He also congratulated Plaisance school for its achievements, especially in the context of human resource development and extended his appreciation and gratitude to all the staff who have been working tirelessly over the years.

“Plaisance has fostered a generation of ministers, members of the National Assembly, doctors, pilots, engineers, economists, chief executive officers, teachers, artists and many more.  May I urge Plaisance school staff and students to continue to strive for excellence as echoed in your motto. May I also urge you all to carry the flame of success that has been established for the past 25 years,” he said.

Remember Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is not a preparation for life, but life itself,” he said.
