Basketball: National League Champs Heat, Drifters reach century mark |25 April 2017
Champions Beau Vallon Heat and Drifters reached the century mark during the weekend as the national basketball league dribbled off at Victoria Gymnasium.
Out of the five games on the weekend’s programme only three were played as some teams did not receive the fixtures on time.
Defending men’s division one champions Beau Vallon Heat had no trouble collecting their first victory of the new campaign on a 107-54 score against last year’s second division winners Premium Cobras Youth.
The match between the two champions was in fact the first league encounter and it was played last Friday at 5.15pm.
On the same day in the late match which tipped off at 6.45pm, Premium Cobras showed their intention of featuring among the title challengers by beating former champions Mont Fleuri Dawgz.
After getting their season off to the best possible start with a 77-53 win over Drifters in the men’s Curtain-raiser final earlier this month, Premium Cobras again showed that they are championship materials with an 83-43 victory over the Dawgz who failed to bite.
Anse Boileau-based Drifters showed no mercy towards Cascade Bullets in a big win in Saturday’s only game played.
Drifters steamrollered the Bullets to reach the century mark in their double-digit 102-30 victory against lightweight Bullets.
