Local artists honoured at 7th Cable Tunes award ceremony |24 April 2017
Top selling local artists for the year 2016 were rewarded on Friday night in the seventh Cable Tunes award ceremony where Jahrimba and Tris emerged as the best male and female artist respectively.
The event, held at the Katiolo Discotheque, is organised every year by local telecommunication company Cable and Wireless to reward local artists who have excelled during the previous year. Airtel is another telecom company that also hosts such an event.
As Tris was not present that night, it was Xtra Big who collected her prize.
“When I make music it is to educate and make my people happy. It is not about getting prizes. Ever since its introduction the Cable Tunes awards has been a great motivation for artists. I dedicate my prize ‘Best Male Artist’ to my mum and children,” said Jahrimba.
Xtra Big also won several prizes during the event, including Best Song, Best Album and Best Video Clip.
“I was not expecting it. But I know I have an album that people have appreciated during various musical shows on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue,” he said.
Xtra Big added he has a show coming soon but regarding a new album it is not yet in his immediate programme.
He urged other artists to keep producing and always be positive.
Louis Gang won the award for Best Group, the Best Collaboration award went to Swagg Tunes and Mercenary with their song ‘Gete Ou Menm’ while Isham won the award for Best New Artist.
The artist who sold the most Cable Tunes for 2016 is Ion Kid.
“I did not have any expectarions as I was focussing only on my performance. So I am very happy. Thank you all,” said a smiling Isham.
Several artists also entertained the audience during the evening.
“There was no way we couldn't thank those artists for their great performance during 2016. It’s really not about us but about the artists tonight,” said Arthur Lopinto, communications executive at Cable & Wireless.
