Beau Vallon secondary launches science club |06 February 2017

The Beau Vallon secondary school in collaboration with the National Institute for Science, Technology and Innovation (Nisti), has launched is first ever science club called ‘Science, Technology & Innovation’ (STI) club.

The STI club was officially launched on Friday morning at the school’s conference room in the presence of the secretary of state, department of foreign affairs Ambassador Barry Faure, the chief executive (CEO) of Nisti Xavier Estico, the elected members of the National Assembly for Bel Ombre and Beau Vallon – Nicholas Prea and John Hoareau respectively, the head teacher of Beau Vallon secondary school Judanne Lozé, parents and students.

The aim of the science club is to help students acquire knowledge of science, technology and innovation, help students develop a scientific way of learning; make science, technology and innovation relevant to the school learning;  and make science and technology and innovation learning an exciting endeavour to the community life.

Deputy head S1/S3 Garry Nanty said around 200 students at the school – from S1 to S5 – are currently in the STI club.

“We hope the club will encourage the students to develop an interest in the study of science and technology. It is my dream that, together with the club members, the Beau Vallon school will have a new generation of science and technology minded youths,” he said.

For its first activity the school is sending ten students from S4 to S5 to America in July to take part in the Robot Olympics.

During the ceremony Ambassador Faure had the privilege to unveil the logo of the club.
