The Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) was officially launched in March 1998 and currently has a total of 74 staff. Affiliated partners include youth organisations, secondary and post-secondary institutions, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). As per our national youth policy 2013 – 2017 we cater for youths aged 15 to 30 years. We do not however exclude youths who fall below or above this age range in our activities and programmes.

Vision

To be a credible Council that empowers the youth to be responsible, self-motivated and willing to contribute to their own wellbeing and that of Seychelles.

Mission

To provide equal opportunities for the physical, artistic, spiritual, educational and moral development of the youth through empowerment, participation, programmes, and advocacy of youth interests at national and international level.

Leadership of SNYC

The Council is governed by a Board whose members are elected through a voting process during the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The Board members are in office for a period of two years.

The administration and control of the day to day affairs of the Council and its employees falls under the responsibility of the chief executive (CEO) and the deputy chief executive, both appointed by the President of the Republic.

The functions of SNYC

• • To assist in the formulation and revision of the national youth policies;
• • To foster among the Seychellois youth a spirit of national consciousness, a sense of unity and discipline, respect, understanding, co-operation and harmony through youth work;
• • To plan and conduct programmes of activities that would contribute to the moral, cultural, educational, economic, artistic and physical advancement of the Seychellois youth;
• • To uphold and strengthen the voluntary and democratic principles in the youth movements;
• • To liaise with national youth organisations of other countries;
• • To promote international understanding and co-operation;
• • To provide a medium for a regular dialogue between the youth and Government on matters pertaining to youth.
