Trial in Jimmy Denis’ death starts |03 November 2016

The trial in the murder of Jimmy Denis started yesterday in the Supreme Court with the selection of the jurors followed by the first sitting.

Jude Hery Joubert stands accused of murdering 35-year-old Denis who was found with a bloody face on the beach in the Boat House vicinity at Beau Vallon on the night of Wednesday May 18, 2016.

Postmortem carried out on Mr Denis medically established that he died as a result of severe bilateral pulmonary edema and hemorrhage, aspiration of blood and also severe head and neck trauma.

According to investigations carried out by the police, it was revealed that Denis and a 23-year-old male suspect had been involved in a one on one fight prior to the deceased being found with a bloody face on the beach in the Boat House vicinity.

The suspect was arrested on Friday May 20, 2016.

The murder case, being heard by Justice Melchior Vidot, is expected to last one month.

Lawyer Clifford Andre is defending the accused, while George Tachet is the state counsel.
