Careers Week visit at The H Resort |03 August 2016
Plaisance students get insight into hospitality industry
As part of the annual Careers Week organised by the Ministry of Labour and Human Resource Development, The H Resort at Beau Vallon hosted students from Plaisance secondary school.
Ten Secondary Five (S5) students were accompanied by their teacher Solange Mein, who specilalises in teaching within the hospitality field.
The enthusiastic group of teenagers were given a tour of The H Resort by the sales team, taking in the accommodation on offer, the Sesel Spa and the resort’s culinary venues and recreational facilities.
The aim of their visit, which is part of the school curriculum, was to provide the students with an insight into the working procedures of the property and to fulfil one of the curriculum requirements.
They gained a better understanding of the daily routine, the day-to-day activities and types of jobs and roles in a five-star property.
The students will later move on to furthering their studies and understanding at the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA).
Fabienne Tirant, sales executive at The H Resort, commented: “It is wonderful to see such an engaged bunch of students, who seem to have a genuine interest in the hospitality sector.”
She went on to say: “For any young person considering career options, it is important for them to fully understand what is required in this environment, so Careers Week is a great opportunity for these ten students to better get a little first-hand insight.”
Among the 10 students who toured the property, there was an aspiring bartender/mixologist, front office staff, Spa therapists and a pastry chef.
For some of the students it was their first ever visit to a hotel, so upon seeing one of the Junior Suites, many were in awe of the space and its amenities.
After the excitement of the inspection they enjoyed a fresh juice cocktail and cookies. The students had many questions concerning working hours, salary packages and employee benefits.
They all described themselves as being, “a people person” and that they loved the idea of interacting with guests.
The property had an effect, with several of them expressing an interest in doing work placement during their school holidays.
