Penlac supports Seychelles’ karting |28 May 2016
Popular local paint business Penlac has shown its support to the development of karting in Seychelles by presenting the association with a cheque last Saturday.
The presentation was made by the chief executive of Penlac, Gaffour Yakub, to the chairperson of the Seychelles Karting Association (SKA), Liza Rene-Cosgrow. This forms part of the company’s ongoing support to various sports and environmental causes via its corporate social responsibility (CSR) proceeds. Businesses are allowed to allocate 0.25% of their CSR proceeds to approved sports federations and associations, endorsed by the National Sports Council (NSC).
Mr Yakub said: “I am pleased to see the parents taking such an active interest in their children’s participation in the karting experience.”
He added that he hopes Penlac’s financial help to the SKA, which is equivalent to 72 litres of super gloss paint, will be used productively to decorate the track.
The presentation was held during the training for the novice drivers and this was fitting considering the aim of Penlac is to help with bringing more youth and developing more young talents for the sport.
In the past, Penlac has quietly supported football and volleyball at national level, with an increasing emphasis on eco-friendly projects relating to the environment. This time the company’s CEO has decided to support the SKA because he feels the latter is in need of a helping hand to improve the condition of the track for the encouragement of more young drivers.
“Usually, Penlac supports sustainable environmental projects including waste management because Penlac wants to do its part in assisting to clean the environment. It is its way of giving back to society, given that the manufacturing company has to deal with chemicals and other materials with high VOCs (volatile organic compounds) all of which have to be handled with great care for health and safety reasons,” explained Mr Yakub.
He also pointed out that Penlac doesn’t only produce all sorts of decorative paints, varnishes and automotive paints and/or thinners, but it is also able to supply a new line of high quality and ‘super strength’ adhesives, sealants and blaze gum that can be used by garages in conducting repairs to car exhausts, radiators and gasket maker.
Meanwhile, karting action will resume on Sunday with round four of the National Championships taking place as of 9am at the Champions Park Raceway, Roche Caïman.
