Making communication stronger between, parents, teachers and children |30 April 2016

There are growing concerns regarding students’ discipline in schools. One of those is conflict among the students which can involve bullying, physical abuse and others.

Too often we rely on teachers or the Ministry of Education to resolve those problems, while parent involvement is also needed in order to find a solution.

It is in this spirit that Antoine Alcindor of La Louise has decided to create an association which aims at building better relationship among children of the Mont Fleuri primary school, along with the teachers and parents.

A parent with one child at the school in P2-1, Mr Alcindor has decided to create this association.

“Such association will enable all the children along with the teachers and parents at the Mont Fleuri primary school to have a better relationship among them and reduce problems between them. It will enable parents to meet other parents at the same school, and build a strong connection,” he said.

Recently the association organised a picnic at Au Cap so that parents, teachers and children could socialise and mingle, and learn more about each other.

“When we had that picnic, around 52% of the children from the P2-1 class turned up. It was really an honour to see so many parents getting to know each other. My dream is to be able to bring this programme to a national level in all the primary and secondary schools,” Mr Alcindor added.

Also at the picnic, parents, teachers and children could interact through different activities such as dance competition, bodybuilding contest among others.

The teacher of the Mont Fleuri P2-1 class Elsa Mathiot, also embraced Mr Alcindor’s wonderful idea. She said such a programme will create a bond between parents, teachers along with the children.

Mr Alcindor has got a lot of ideas for the success of this association. In the months to come, he is planning to organise a hike for the parents, teachers, and children who did not make it to the picnic.

He feels that an initiative should be spread to all the schools on the island as it brings better communication between the teachers, children and parents.

“A school has more than one role in the lives of children and should be a place for families as well as an educational setting,” he concludes.
