MCB donates R75,000 to repair Mont Buxton multi-purpose court |14 April 2016
The Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) has once again showed its support towards sport and social development here through a monetary aid towards the reparation of the multi-purpose court at Mont Buxton.
The bank was approached by the ‘Friends of Mont Buxton’ group to help with this project and it duly responded by donating R75,000 to the group to help with the restoration project.
MCB managing director Bernard Jackson presented the cheque to the ‘Friends of Mont Buxton’s vice-chairperson Sharon Gerry yesterday afternoon in a short ceremony held at the bank. Present were the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton, National Sports Council (NSC) chief executive Giovanna Rousseau, MCB staff and members of ‘Friends of Mont Buxton’.
The minister expressed his gratitude to MCB who continues to show support to Seychelles’ sport and social development and said the donation reflects MCB’s policy of social contribution.
“The youth are our future and everything we do for social cohesion is for the emancipation of the youth so that they can live well and be active in their community,” the minister added.
Mr Jackson on his part said: “Sports and social development are very important to us and so when we were approached it was only logical for us to come forward and give our contribution.”
Ms Gerry expressed her gratitude and thanked MCB for its help in enabling this project.
Mont Buxton currently has two basketball teams and to have proper training facilities will definitely be a boost for both sides and may even help another team to come out of the district in the future.
