Two new generators to be integrated within Roche Caiman power station |10 November 2015

The Public Utilities Corporation is planning a controlled shut down of part of its Roche Caïman power station, to integrate the electrical systems of the two new generator sets within the power station.

Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) says that the planned shutdown is scheduled for Sunday November 15 between 2am and 5am.

“The early hours of Sunday morning have been chosen because normally the demand for electricity at such time is at its lowest,” says PUC.

In the unlikely event that the demand exceeds the station capacity while work is underway to connect the new generators sets, PUC says there may be the need to lightly load shed some areas of north and south Mahé for short durations.

The two new generators are expected to be operational in two weeks’ time, and will contribute a combined capacity of 16 megawatts to the existing station capacity of 60 megawatts.

“The extra capacity will greatly help to improve the quality and reliability of supply throughout Mahé,” says PUC.

On Praslin the work to integrate the electrical systems of the new generator within the Baie Ste Anne power plant was completed recently and it is expected that the new set will come on line shortly.
